If you're not into yoga...

I've never been a huge fan of sweet, fancy blender drinks... frappuccino anyone? After dinner one night we skipped dessert and went to sit at the bar. I was looking at the drink menu, thinking about wine, when I saw it... Piña Colada... it's a drink, but it's also dessert... interesting.
That's how it happens. One minute you're not a fancy drink drinker, and the next you're eating a maraschino cherry, grinning like an idiot. Am I regressing? I don't care, a Piña Colada is better than any ice cream or molten chocolate lava poo cake I've ever had. Now I just need to learn how to make them at home!

Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée

I picked up vanilla beans at the market, but I wasn't really thinking of crème brûlée at the time. This afternoon when we decided to made dessert, and wanted to use the vanilla, it seemed like the obvious choice. The recipe is quite simple, but I decided to leave out the ginger. Delicious!

Unpronounceably Delicious

An old friend was in town to screen her documentary film Died Young Stayed Pretty - A Movie About Rock Posters. If you appreciate gig posters and graphic design, this documentary is for you.
To celebrate, we went to Teronni on Queen for dinner. I had my favorite – Orecchiette with Lamb Ragù. It was excellent... as usual. I'm including a photo of the dessert because it was a daily special. I can't remember the exact name, that even our gracious server was unable to pronounce. It was something like Gurajtadah, or Glabjihatzflap... regardless, it was a dense, flourless, hazelnut chocolate cake, accompanied by a dollop of whipped creme. F*ck it was good.
**Update** Prosecco has schooled me in Italian, the dessert was called Gianduja. I still can't pronounce it, but now at least I know what it is.

dessert dessert dessert
These pics are from the last dinner I was ambitious enough to make *3*, count 'em, *3* aprés dinner treats. I think it was because C was back from Italy and I wanted to impress him. And you know what they say- "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach". hah! So here you have a chocolate raspberry tart, lemon yogurt loaf, and way in the corner, the mini pecan pie "cupcakes"- larger photo below.
