Pickle!

OMG, I can't get enough of pickle! Cucumbers, red onion, pepper corns, jalapeno, habañero, white wine vinegar and cider vinegar. Let it sit for a few hours and you'll have a spicy, épicé, picante and delicious condiment. I like it on everything except my breakfast.

Thanks Giving

Our Thanks Giving tradition is to avoid tradition... no turkey, no stuffing, just Canada's Wonderland and spicy snacks. After maxing out our adrenaline by riding the Behemoth we stopped in at Linda, for Mieng Kum and Crispy Duck.

Mieng Kum is a great example of how a few simple ingredients come together to create something incredible. I can never remember the name of leaf used to create this little pocket of fire, but you pile on chopped lime rind, shallots, peanuts, coconut, chilies, candied shrimp, something like an oyster sauce, and then pop the whole thing in your mouth. I can't describe the flavour, you'll just have to try it for yourself, but be warned... it's a mouth surprise, and the heat isn't for everyone. Have a beer close by!

If you can't make it up to Don Mills Mall, head over to their location on Gould, above the Salad King.

Finally Foxley

We've been trying to have dinner at Foxely since it opened, but always seem to pick a night when the wait is over an hour. Last night we were lucky to score the last table, sitting comfortably at the back with a nice breeze from the open door.

I've loved this style of spicy, asian infused cooking since we first tried Youki years ago. Youki is long gone, but Foxley's chef who was involved with that temple of cuisine brought back fond memories with each dish we sampled.

Blue crab and avocado salad

Spicy crispy shrimps with jalepeno and garlic

Steamed p.e.i mussels with green curry

Grilled hanger steak with chimichuri

Lamb and duck prosciutto dumplings
